ACerS 2007 - Daytona Beach
January 23-24, 2007
Business part of the trip
The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) holds an anual International Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composits. They have been doing this since 1977. This year it was held in Daytona Beach, Florida January 22 - 26. ACerS conducts other conferences and expositions concerning other types of ceramic technology. This one relates mostly to highly technical ceramics as opposed to ceramics like dinnerware is made from. CPI (my company) was one of the exhibitors at the conference. Esteban Luna, another CPI employee, and I manned our booth in the exhibit area.
The conference focuses on the underlying fundamentals among processing, microstructure, properties and performance of ceramics and composites. The 2007 program also includes Symposium on Advanced Ceramic Coatings for Structural, Environmental and Functional Applications; 4th International Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells; Ceramic Armor; Bioceramics and Biocomposites; Porous Ceramics; International Symposium on Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology, all of which cover much of the current active research and development areas and especially deal with integrating dissimilar constituents and materials for system applications. An intensive two-day microwave program of technical papers, short courses, and a technology fair is also a part of the Conference! It is designed as an intensive, hands-on program for scientists, technologists and vendor companies in this field.

The view from my room at the Hilton hotel. The hotel is right on the beach and just across the street from the large exposition center.

The hotel is located in about mid-city. I suspect that clock-tower in this picture has been there for quite some time. I didn't take the time to investigate that though.

Guess we know what time of the day that Mike took this picture.
Esteban Luna and Mike Marks man the CPI booth that features our Autowave system and other industrial microwave heating products.
The Kennametal booth, manned by Chris Decker, was right next to ours.

The poster presentation area was also in the expo center. The large lecture halls for the other presented papers were across the street in the Hilton Hotel.
Some companies had equipment to show. The attendees at the conference could use the machines in some cases.
One of the companies who sells microwave components like the ones we'd buy for use in the equipment we manufacture at CPI.
CPI buys low density ceramic board from this company from time to time.
This is a booth for a competing company. They make products that compete directly with ours from time to time.
Jerome Czajkowski from Richardson Electronics. Richardson supplies some of the componets that are used in the CPI equipment.
Donald Seccombe is the director of research at BTU in Massachusetts. BTU has recently acquired part of a company that has been using some of CPI's heating systems.
Of course, there were very many more exhibitors at this conference and exposition. I photographed only the booths that were of interest to me for some reason.
