Hang Gliding
Ft. Funston Military Reservation
just south of San Francisco along the Pacific coast
I have been here before . . . but this time I had my camera. What a neat area for hang gliding! The wind almost always blows in from the ocean here and it hits the cliffs and shoots up in a big wave across the hills. The glider pilots don't even leap off the cliff . . . they just walk to the edge and catch the rising air immediately. Doesn't it look like fun. WOW!!!

Almost ready to fly. Just some last minute adjustments to the glider.

Almost ready now.

Taking it to the edge . . .
ready . . . .

Almost there now . . . can hardly wait to join the other flyers already up there.

Now . . . just catch that rising air
and . . . .

We're flying

Tuck those feet up . . . just like a bird. Free as a bird.

Now, just climb on out and enjoy the scenery.

Gaining altitude.

How can it get any better than this?
While I was there at least 15 and as many as 25 gliders were in the air at any given time working the rising air currents off the cliff. Not one had to land on the beach. None even came close to landing on the beach. They could stay up flying around as long as they wanted to do that. And, it has been that way every time I've gone there to watch. What a beautiful sight they are.
